Framed Matchbox Models of Yesteryear 1912 Rolls Royce diecast car with glass.

Matchbox produced the Models of Yesteryear series in England starting in 1956 to celebrate historic motor vehicles from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These miniature vehicles were designed for collectors and hobbyists, recreating famous classic cars with detailed metal bodies and plastic components. Each model was carefully scaled and painted in authentic period colors to appeal to automotive enthusiasts of all ages.

Collectors and hobbyists displayed these small vehicles on shelves, in cabinets, or mounted inside custom wall frames just like this one. They were prized as affordable desktop ornaments and miniature tributes to the golden age of motoring. Over the decades, changing tastes and the rise of specialized toy collecting gradually shifted these pieces from playroom toys to nostalgic decorative collectibles.
