Vintage Brazilian butterfly wing marquetry tray.

These trays originated in Brazil, primarily crafted as premium souvenirs in Rio de Janeiro. They gained immense international popularity during the Art Deco movement and mid-century tourist boom. The center panel features a hand-painted scene on glass superimposed over genuine, iridescent blue Morpho butterfly wings that catch and reflect the light to mimic shimmering water. The background artwork depicts the iconic Guanabara Bay landscape, showcasing the distinct silhouette of Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar).
